Like title says. I have the cover off now because of oil leaks that i've had for years and finally decided to fix. Do I need to tab the dowel in my 2001?

 

It is a possibility. It depends if you got the updated cover or not. The only way to know is to pull the cover off and check.

There was a post here where a guy with a 2002 dropped the dowel pin. It was backed up by a repair invoice from Dodge.


They well the KDP repair kits for both 12V and 24V's.

 

If you have the cover off the pin is right there to the left of the pump gear. Tab it now and sleep easy. Try here for some pics:

Well there is a big lip from the bolt to where the dowel is. And the dowel is set in there quite a ways. I think it must be the updated gearcase that was not reamed all the way through.
