Bypassing oil sensor

I've been reading posts after posts and have found a crap load of info, but not what I want to know... Has anyone put in a machanical oil pressure guage and just bypassed the oil pressure sensor, I know that is the problem because i check the pressure and its good but my guage is reading nothing nada... $12 guage or $100 sensor.... I just need a answer if you can or not will my truck shut down if i dont replace the sensor?

To my knowledge it will not quit. I futher beleive your sensor is really nothing more then a pressure switch with fancy connector. The ECM looks for switch to go open and generates a gauge movement that satsifies the driver.

I have a mechanical gage in my truck. The only real problem is that the oil line is pretty long and too small diameter. It take a long time to show oil pressure in the winter.

I'd suggest using a 1/4 in brake line up to the dash opening where ever you drill it.. Put a rubber gromet inthe hole and use a #4 braided line to the gage. It still will be a little sluggish in the winter but better than the puny line that comes with the gage.

The truck will run fine with the sender connected but you will probably get a check engine warning.

Don't worry about slow response. You know as soon as the needle moves, you are good to go. Route small line away from heat.
