Bypass wastegate?

Hello,

I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 with the 24-vavle motor. Another buddy of mine has one with a full exhaust and a few other mods. He also told me that he bypassed his wastegate.. What purpose would this serve and is it something worth doing?

Thanks,

Derek

Re:Bypass wastegate?

Smokedawg Howdy! On a 2001 you can get a turnbuckle and
a couple springs at the hardware store hook to your wastegate
this keeps wastegate from opening at about 18-20 PSI it
will now get about 28-psi of boost. Do a search on wastegate
or boost elbows they will give you the length of Turnbuckle
and springs.

;D

Re:Bypass wastegate?

The motor will handle 28lbs of boost without a negative effect??

Appreciate the help!

Smokedawg:
The engine can handle it but without some sort of boost fooler or a fueling box with one built in you are gonna throw an overboost code and your truck is going to defuel when it gets above 20psi or so. So there is not much point without the boost fooler or fueling box with one built in such as the edge ez or comp, Diesel Dynamics TTPM, among many others, but not all fueling boxes come with the boost fooler. Also you can get just a boost fooler. If you already have one of these then yeah go for it easy 10 minute job.

Re:Bypass wastegate?

With the turnbuckle I now get about 31-32 lbs. of boost. Made a big difference on my towing EGT's. I can't get it over 1100 degrees even on the longest hills.

DOES THIS WORK ON THE 99 ENGINE AS WELL? WHO MAKES A BOOST FOOLER?

My EZ has a boost fooler built in, so do most other boxes.
