Broke down Help
Broke down Help
Side of the road...dead. (home now)
Chugging down the road...I noticed my FP gauge jumping from 14 down to 0 for a short time and everything inbetween. I was hoping to get home before it shut down. Then the motor just quit....coasted to shoulder.
Codes were P 1693? definition of that?
Truck sat for a while....then I cranked it. It usually starts with a half a crank. It will crank now but won't start or run.
There was little to no warning of my failure. 89K miles. What failed....(not sure of terms here)lift pump, VP 44 or?
I hear my carter pusher pump whining when I try to start it.
Thanks...

When is the last time you changed the fuel filter?
Make sure you have fuel in the tank. Our fuel gauges are notorious for failing.
If you still have the schraeder valve between your filter and IP, depress the needle after you try to start it and see if fuel sprays out.
Just because you hear the lift pump running does not always mean it's working. You can remove the lid from the filter housing, bump the key, and then look to see if fuel is being supplied to the canister. It should enter the canister at the top on rear side.
If all that checks out, you may need to bleed the injector lines.

P1693 is just a companion code, nothing interesting about it. You need to check your lift pump to make sure it's putting out properly. If that's not the problem, crack some injector lines and see if you have fuel there. Most likely a dead VP44 though...
