Brake problem.
Brake problem.
Brakes feel fine most of the time, but, a couple of times, when my wife or son have been driving, the pedal had gone completely to the floor and they've had to pump it a couple of times to stop. This problem is very intermittent, so I have not been able to duplicate it. I don't drive the truck that often.
The shoes/drums/rotors/pads are all in excellent, near-new, condition. Brake lines have been bled. Could the brake actuator be acting up? Any ideas?

My guess is that the master cylinder is starting to fail. Sounds like a seal is worn enough that it will let the fluid leak past it once in a while when the conditions are right.
It's pretty hard to diagnose when it's that intermittent. It may be worth trying a new m/c to see what happens. As a side note: There are several companies making NEW master cylinders now in the aftermarket. I have found their quality to be way better than the remanufactured stuff that's out there. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I thought about the M/C, but I thought that would have been a consistent issue. I have not noticed the pedal dropping while sitting at a traffic light. I guess I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens. It might be a good time to trade up, since the tranny needs a bit of work too.
