brake dust
brake dust
ok, changed my brake pads about 6mos. ago. my front ones still squeal and put brake dust on front rims, rotors are fine stops fine but it is noisy when you stop, so what gives.
Most likelyGarbage pads! Not all pads are equal, I've posted a couple times of my findings as I would eat thru a set of pads every 3-4months. Bendix stopped the best, were noisy, and would make some brake dust. raybestos were the next best for noise and dust but did not stop as well as Bendix, then came Hawk pads, good dust control and no noise, but dont stop any better than the Raybestos .Since my upgrade to the 3rd gen rotors and pads I've found the cermaic pads are the best...no noise no dust(and I mean NONE!!) and stop when you apply the brakes.

And eat the rotors up. I generally use the premium from Advance or Auto Zone withlifetime warranty and see very little difference in stopping. Very low dust factor and never a squeal. I know, it doesn't have enough glory to the name and doesn't need slotted rotors to show. Just decent brake.

really depends which compound you're running. Semi-metallic usually give most dust vs ceramic which give least dust and it's light colored so it's almost unnoticeable on your rims. Hawk has ferro-carbon compound, its newest thing on the market, I'd try those out.
