guy has a 99 24 valve, the waste gate is not hooked up to the turbo it has a plug in the turbo and the line is still there. if the waste gate is not hooked up can it still cause problems? does it do anything else. the reason i ask is he is having problems building boost and lack of power. i havent looked at the truck yet but i think he may be having a fuel prob. but i just wanted to know if the waste gate does anything else when it it not plummed into the turbo. thanks-sorry if this seem confusing

 

having the wastegate unhooked will not affect power. its going to allow for "extra" boost. Do you have excessive black smoke if you do look for a boost leak

 

I assume you mean the boost signal is disconnected from the actuator. In this case, it will build boost until the drive pressure can overcome the wastegate.

If the actuator is unhooked and the flapper arm is floating, it'll never make any boost.
