Question Boost?

Ok, I have checked and tightened all the boots and still no more boost. I'm barely pushing 22 psi. I checked the ez and its still working great. I also sprayed soapy water around my boost guage fittings and reved it up until I got a little boost and no bubbles or anything. All the boots seem to be intact and no cracks or anything. The one lower boot on the drivers side gave me some trouble. The clamp was corroded and when trying to loosen it to move the boot a little it like bent the little straps that hold the T at the end so the whole thing just spun. BUT with an allen wrench shoved in there and my impact socket I got her tight again. I am at a loss guys. Any other ideas?

sounds like your waste gate is opening at 22psi like it's designed to from the factory ..................you did install the boost elbow or disable your wastegate right ??

if not you'll only see 22psi ................

The boost you get when reving may not be enough to show a leak. The leak may only be showing under load and at higher boost levels. I would double check and make sure that all of the boots have a nice clean mating surfaceto the pipe and are nice and tight. The one boot clamp that gave you trouble might be the problem. It may tighten the bolt but not the boot. Let us know what you find.

I had a '96 that had a hair line crack in the intercooler-gave me fits trying to find it. Hose it down and look for bubbles!! If you lost one look out $ 1,200 installed from your lovely Dodge dealer!!

Just a thought. Could you temporarilly bypass the wastegate completely to eliminate the boost elbow as a problem? It just seems a little funny that your boost seems to be limited to exactly factory specs.

Yeah I will put some vice grips on the hose to see. I know this is a dumb question but I do have the boost elbow in the right spot correct?

just installed my ez edge today. i got the boost elbow with mine and it said optional, that the edge would work the same with or without it. also said the 2001's did not have a fitting or? for the boost elbow.
what is the benifit of this elbow and is it benifcial for normal driving and extended towing?

Its supposed to give you more boost because your ez acts as a boost fooler and fools the wastegate(I THINK!) Well anyway it's supposed to give you more boost and it can also lower your EGT's. So it is a good thing to have if you tow a lot. Normal driving, you wont notice much. I dont think it gives you anymore power. IF I'm wrong someone will chime in and explain!

The boost elbow allows your turbo to produce higher boost before the wastegate opens. This would be beneficial for towing to keep EGTs lower. Your 2001 has a hard metal line instead of the rubber one on the earlier models. Therefore, the boost elbow will not work for you. You would have to purchase something like the Turbomaster unit or the good ol' fashioned turnbuckle. There should be lots of info on both if you wanted to do a search.

You're almost right. The "boost fooler" part is in the EZ itself. It is "fooling" the ECM into thinking that it is seeing only 20-22 psi of peak boost instead of the 30 psi or so that the turbo should put out with the boost elbow installed. Otherwise, the ECM would set off a check engine light for too much boost.

what boost numbers are you thinking you should see?with just stock injectors, youre not gonna have that much boost.the elbow should keep the gate from opening as soon, but without the extra fuel of some bigger injectors, youre not going to build any higher boost.fuel is what makes boost.

Seems to me that I should be seeing a little more than what am now. I am not sure. I have heard of people with a setup like mine getting more boost.

I clamped off the waste gate and that gave me a whopping 2psi!!

Any other ideas?
