So here is the situation. Just made a trip from Minneapolis to Albany NY and back, truck ran great. Its my moms, sat for 4-5 months. Changed all the filters before the trip. As we got back to town my gf and I head out of vacation and all the sudden it starts surging, i look out the window and see a light haze of smoke. I pull over and give it a little fuel to see what might be the issue as all guages check out and no codes, Find that the truck blows heavy blue smoke around the 2k range, little before maybe, and really surges. I changed the filter on the spot, but didnt have enough fuel with me to compeletly fill the canaster so i bump the starter, then run the truck, it dies due to air, I cant get started so i have it towed home ( closer than shop and hey i wanna fix it )

First, whats the bleed procedure? I tried crackin 4 of the injectors on the road ( only ones i can get to with the tools i have) andhad no luck there, actually very little fuel came out. So any tips?

Second What does the origional problem sound like? seemed to make ok boost ( i dont have a guage but the boots all got hard so i imagine some boost is there) and there is no code as of yet.

 

ok, the no fuel thing sounds like a lift pump.

The blue smoke and surging around 2k RPM sounds exactly like the symptoms of a dying lift pump starving/overfeeding the injection pump.

On my 01, the VP pumps crapped out shortly after exhibiting those symptoms. Funny, I went through about a pallet of stock lift pumps before I got something better. Gotta love warranty.
