Blow By
how much blow by is normal ????I had removed that goffy cup that catches the blow by residue and put a hose on it anp put it about 4" below the A arm on the front end . I have noticed after the truck is at operating temp. i have some noticeable blow by . but having owned and operated several big trucks I know blow by is normal and i also noticed it depends on the brand oil oil that you run I am running schaffers in this truck and at last oil analsys everything was great then so i was wondering if this is normal or should i start looking for a replacement truck i was hoping to run this one for another year at this moment i have about 240,000 miles on it now
My original engine always had a good amount of blowby, in the winter with some breezes I would see it drift past the nose of the truck. I used to worry about it a lot. The engine was in great shape and it pulled good. Some do this some don't.
The vacuum pump can also add to the blowby, a vacuum leak can cause it. The exhaust of the vacuum pump is to the crankcase. You will find that it depends on the humidity on how much you see. If I hold my hand over the breather on my engine I can feel a lot of it coming out, but cannot see it.
Unless you have the oil problems along with it, I would not worry about it.

Have a look at this thread.....there is directions by Infidel that tells how to build a blow-by tester:
