Blow-by ?????????
Blow-by ?????????
Hey everyone hope someone on here can answer this for me. I recently installed a FS2500 and a II 62/14 turbo. Up until then I had little to no blow-by out of the relocated crankcase breather hose. but after these were installed there is an excessive amount of oil getting out and covering the whole underside of the truck. It seems if I keep revs under 2100 on the highway blow by signifigantly decreases. I have the FS returning into the side of the valve cover roughly between #2 & 3 cylinder on the passenger side. Could the extra oil returning to the top end be causing this? Seems unlikely but as I said I did not have this problem before. Boost pressure is also the same as the stock turbo when this blow by occurs. Could it be time for a new set rings? The truck only has 130,000 miles on it,and the oil has been religously every 3000 miles from new using Quaker state 15/40. I've gone as far as running 3/4" pvc pipe to the back of the truck which has alleviated the mess underneath the truck but the wind seems to swirl and cover the end gate with oil. sorry for the length of this post but I have searched the forum and have not been able to find a definitive answer. Thanks in advance. Oh just in case you don't look at my sig it's a 2001.5 H.O. 6-speed.
most likely the issue is the turbo itself, a bad turbocharger can give you excessive blow-by. take the turbo drain and run it into bucket and run the engine and check the blow by then. if you see a decrease in blow-by, there is the problem. remember your oil level will be dropping with the drain going into the bucket. you can run it long enough to check.
