My truck was built here in the states, does that mean I need to worry?
[/quote]

Yes, you still need to "worry", although I am not... My '99 was built in St. Louis, MO and I have the 53 block. I however, sleep very well at night. There is nothing to worry about until it cracks! Until then, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to keep it from cracking.... :'( :'(

Just enjoy life and your CTD. ;D ;D

Re:Block cracking number

I was under my truck, and looked for the block number. What I came up with 14m73. Does this make sense? I am hoping for a Mexican block, but every now and then I get a strong whiff of anti-freeze. No steam on windshield, so I do not believe it is the heater core. Most of you have said the Mex. block is 6 digits, or am I even looking in the right spot? I am looking on the driver side, below the inj. pump, right around the P/S pump. Please advise, as I only have 11,000 miles left under warranty.

Re:Block cracking number

I agree wit DEZLPWR ..... if it cracks it cracks. There are people with 53 blocks that do heavy haulin and their trucks have over 200k on them.. iN FACT JUST today I bought my first CTD with a 53 block. I didnt let it break thedeal... it is hard to find a good truck that has been taken care of.. just my input

Re:Block cracking number

Am I looking in the correct place? My truck is a 2002, 2500. I understand the number is suppose to be on the drivers side just above the oil pan towards the front of the engine. Kinda in the area behind where the blow by bottle blows all the oil( i know down a bit from that). There is a engine harness about 1 inch in diameter attached to the block right in the way of the only numbers I see. From what I can tell, there are two rows of numbers. The top row is about 8 numbers (j144.....) the bottom row is three numbers (260). Are these the right numbers?

Thanks,

Tim

Yours should have a "55" or "56" where you are looking. But it sounds like you have a 2002 Mexican block which is the most HD block Cummins makes. Congrats. Hang on to that truck!!!

Re:Block cracking number

Mine has a LARGE 53 on the block on the passenger side.
When I change the oil, I can see it everytime...so naturally I check for leakage along the area they are known to crack. So far so good.
