Block cracking number
I searched but couldn't find the information I saw on this sight previously. Was it the #53 blocks that were prone to cracking? Need to know, ready to make an offer on a truck. Thanks John
Re:Block cracking number
If there is not a 53 or 54 etc and instead several small numbers/letters that are hard to read, then it is a Mexican Block which is great they are the strongest blocks made by Cummins and seem to be made of harder material.
Re:Block cracking number
Even if it is a 53 block truck that you are looking to buy, it shouldn't be a deal breaker! 53 block failures are still VERY rare. Go buy the truck and then stop and get a lotto ticket. You have a better chance of winning the lotto than you do getting a cracked block!

Dezlpwr it had right at 60,000 when it started losing coolant. It cracked due to heavy use which is a symptom of the weak blocks. They crack near the turbo, a verticle crack that leaks to the outside, no internal leaks.

There is a 12-14" horizontal crack just under the turbo. You guessed again block #53, 67900 miles. Will they warranty this? I have a BD comp box, gauges and a pressure lock. What should I do!!!
[/quote]

Take your power box off,
then take it to a Dodge dealer.
Its not your fault the block cracked.

Your Cummins warranty specifically states that the Engine block and all internals are covered.

--Justin
Re:Block cracking number
All I can find on mine is a 56. This truck is an 02 manufactured in July, and it was made in Mexico. Is the 56 one of the Cummins blocks shipped to Mexico? Just curious, but what makes one block stonger then the other. Was there a manufacturing mistake or what?
