Best Fuel Additive
I run the Redline RL-3. I don't have a lot of miles...but did in my 6.9 Ford which were known for 75K pumps. The literature shows it even makes water slippery. I use redline products wherever they make sense.
For dispensing...I converted a "Stable" fuel stabilizer bottle. it holds 32 oz and has the built in dispenser for 1 oz. RL-3 takes 1 oz per 10 gallons diesel (easy math). On the 1 oz dispenser side of the bottle I installed one of those ~4" long twist-valve necks sold for oil bottles. Works like a champ.
Stanadyne gets good reviews from the pup people...but it's pretty expensive to use (at least in small quanitites). Gallon of RL-3 cost me like $35 for 1200 gallons of fuel. I tend to put in a tad extra..so call it 1000+ gallons.

I use Power Service only because it is easily available and a pretty good product...
I would LIKE to go back to using Stanadyne, but local vendor is just WAY too proud of it.
For PS, I use a small 8oz screw top plastic bottle. I stash it between my driver side battery and the power distribution center. That way, I open the hood to check the oil, extract my pre-measured little bottle of PS, dump it into the tank and begin fueling... Then I go back and do the oil and fluid checks.
I get back home and refill my little bottle of stuff. That way I don't have that big jug of PS leaking and sliming my truck bed with that lubricant. (been there, done that, too many times)

How bout a 32 oz bottle springing a leak while stowed under the rear seat.
The odor makes one want to
his lunch, and there's now way to get rid of it.Yes, experience talking.

Have you checked with Cenex? In Montana most all of their stations offer B3 and B20. Cenex is also higher cetane than any other brands

Everything else around here is either 1) Conoco or 2) Texaco. They almost ALL get their fuel from the local Frontier Oil refinery in Cheyenne. I've seen Flying J, Diamond Shamrock, and a bunch of other stations getting their fuel from there.
For now, I've settled on the local Flying J which has tremendous turnover (trucks refill them EVERY DAY!) and then additizing with Redline or whatever I happen to have on hand.
I know I'm getting clean, fresh fuel (made here in town). I just suspect that it's lacking lubricity and cetane.

Fuel quality? That's a tough one.
Winter fuel really is poor around here. Heating fuel is the big resource and a furnace doesn't mind if the cetane drops.
The truck stops all sell the low cetane fuel.
The low turn over Mom&Pop station next door sells Arctic Diesel. 45-50 cetane and -20°F gel.
Additive?
The best all around everything in a bottle is Amalgamated.

the only additive that you can readily buy anywhere over the counter here is "REDEX" which says it cleans and lubs the injection system, i guess i'll have to look in some of the truck part stores for some of the products you guys are talking about..............
Ask your local Diesel Service shop if he can get the 5 gallon pail of Stanadyne PF.
It's much cheaper that way.
5 gallon pail in the garage that I use it to refill the Stanadyne jug I bought a while ago.

Here's some interesting reading about what bosch has to say.

I ALLWAYS use Stanadyne blue lable. All year every tank for the last 5 years. Only using straight #2 with it. Never gelled on me either. I use to buy bulk, but, it really stinks and it aint much fun getting it in yer tank with a big container. So, I buy a case of 16 oz bottles at my favorite diesel shop and they allways give me a cut on it fer buyin it like that. Power Service is ok. Personal pref I guess.
Good luck!
Good luck!
I use Redline 85 Plus fuel additive. Redline has a number of fuel additives. All my truck fluids are Redline. It's a matter of choice; but when my truck is "Happy"
...keeps me happy!
Check them out ...

Having just read the Bosh report, it seems we here in the EU have better quality fuels than you in the US. I would be intrested to know at what approx milage your lift pumps pack up, ie, is it really poor manufacturing or vibration or pressure knock or is it simply poor quality fuel that simply wears them out so quick..
Seen no mention of Howes. This one is available at all truck stops at about 11.00 per gal. I have been using this for a couple years . Wish there was a source to check to find out witch one is the best
