Batteries?

What should I look for in replacement batteries for my 01'? It has the original batteries and the truck is cranking slow now that it has to run the grid heaters which I am sure it never had to do in Texas, where it came from.

Same with me, I have pretty much decided to get the Costco group 27. But first I am going to Sears with my bathroom scale and then to Costco. The group 27, non sealed, that weighs the most is the one I am going to buy.

I have tried all sorts of brands in the past for a bunch of vehicles I keep and pretty much use them for three year in my primary vehicle then get new ones and use the old ones in things I don't need a new battery for. I like have having a new set in trucks I use to eliminate one thaing that can go wrong.

Sears Diehards are hard to beat...and if you have trouble the warranty is good nationwide .

The Duralast Gold batteries from AutoZone were the top batteries according to Consumer Reports last year. They are made by Johnson Controls. The Optimas seem to be working good for me. They are almost 3 years old.

Are you looking for a higher, the same CCA rating?

I run 2 yellow tops. That way I can leave the lights on for 3 days and they still crank over

I got Duralast from AutoZone. No complaints. Reasonable price too.

I went with Interstate and have been plenty happy with them.

Even gave me a couple of little keyring flashlights!

Have a good one.

What brand are the stock ones? We (my father and I) have had the stock ones in our truck since new, and that was 8 years ago. But then again i suppose its just luck

My stockers lasted 5 years- replaced them with a single optima red top 4 years ago, still works good. The reserve capacity of the single optima red top isn't great but the cold cranking amps are great. -20C starting without any trouble.

Stock batteries, brakes, and windshield wipers are best for stock performance and life.

I too think mine will fail this winter, maybe I will buy some new ones from work. Is there anything wrong with getting a higher CCA rating? I could get 925 or 1125 CCA batteries at work. And figured the higher the CCA rating would be better for me being as I will see temps around -40 Celsius
