I highly reccomend these :

Far more durable than a standard lead acid battery, better CA and CCA ratings, smaller size, and no more corroded terminals! It doesn't get much better. The only thing I know that is better is the dry cell Odyssey batteries.

With a bit of trimming to the tray a group 31 battery will fit.

The yellow tops are deep cycle batteries, designed to be drained and recharged often. The red and blue tops are starting batteries not designed for deep cycles. Blue tops are marine batteries. I don't know what makes them suited for marine applications, but not the reds.

I was reading that the blues are more targeted towards diesel since they have the cranking ability of the red with the deep cycle of the yellows. im still reading

Optima's website specifically states that the Blue Tops are not deep cycle batteries.

I just put 2 Interstate Workaholic group 31's in my truck, plenty of CCA (950) and a real good RC to. Very happy so far with them and I got them for under $100 a piece. They gave me those neat little flashlights too like someone else mentioned in a previous post.

Thats what I did - at the same time I upgraded the battery cables to 2/0 welding cable and military style clamps.

I had bad luck with the battery brand though - I would NOT recommend Dekas:

I had good luck with Mopar and the price was good. I asked the parts guy who made them. He said Interstate. If I would have known that I might have got Interstate if the price was good.

I bought my replacement batteries from the *********** hoping that they were made by the same company as the originals. I got 8 years and 203,000 miles on the originals.

FWIW: Soon after I bought my 1994 in the Fall of 2000, I installed a pair of those Optima batteries from my local NAPA store. Not sure if they're Optima brand, but they're those "6-pack" style batteries. They're still going strong, 7 years later; they're actually warranted for 84 months or somesuch.

NAPA "orbital" batteries are made by Exide (have a blue one for my boat and race trailer). I have the "Mopar" version in my truck. Been there three years and it's nice to only have to dust off the batteries once in awile. Desert heat makes keeping batteries going a treat. I was cleaning the terminals at least once a week just to keep up with the pending corrosion. If I get four years out of them I'll be happy. Heat kills.
