Balljoints

After battling horrbile steering for the past few months I finally found the time to take my truck down and do the balljoints and tie rods. What an adventure that was. I'm glad to have a balljoint press and a torch, they were a pain even with those. I ended up using MOOG parts for everything, definately worth the money. My truck handles alot better now. I ended up finding both lower balljoints to be bad and all the tie rods were very worn.

How many miles did you go before the change? I'm wondering when I will need to do mine.

My truck had 114,000 on it at the time of the change. I probably should have done them sooner though.

Great, mine has 115,000. I guess that means I have a new Christmas project. I'll probably go ahead and do the U-joints also. Thanks!

Both of my upper ball joints were shot at 40K!

I am betting the entire front end needs to be rebuilt now.

I just rebuilt my entire front end. I wonder how long of a life I can expect from those moogs. They have a lifetime warranty but its a haste changing them.

You're welcome. If I were you, I'd go buy a ball joint press kit from harbor freight and buy the extra adapter kit they sell too, you'll need it. Also have an Oxy/acetylene torch near by so you can heat up around the balljoints. All for of mine popped out alot easier after i heated up the axle around them.

I didnt use a ball joint press on mine, I dont see where I could have really.

I just took the control arm off since its only two bolts and drilled them out with my drill press.

4X4 requires the use of a press. No control arms there.
