Balanced Tires Shaking ??
Balanced Tires Shaking ??
On the way home from New Mexico the other week, I noticed a mild shaking that from experience I thought was an out of balance tire. It's been close to 10,000 miles since rotating the tires, too, so I took it to the tire dealer and had him rotate the tires, and check balance while doing so. They found 1 tire to be 2 oz out, so took care of it, and away I went. Tonight was the 1st time since that I've been on the freeway, and the shaking is still there. Dunno what to think. Had the front end aligned last June, the tires have about ¾ tread......?? What do you guys think ??

Bobbywebb, you'd best be getting that checked out - it sounds serious. Mine is just a light shaking of the steering wheel, and can also feel it thru the seat of my pants. I don't like what that can do to suspension components, but don't feel that it's especially dangerousl. Good Luck.

When was the last time the tire balancing machine was calibrated? How good is the guy using it? Did you pick up a rock or get mud on the rims?
Get ceramic tire balancing beads and install them in the tires. They are 100% accuate everytime you drive your truck.

About $40 and an hour or two putting them into the valve stems and you are done.

When your talking U Joints......are you talking about the main drive line or the u joints on the front axle? Because I've had the drive line requilt and balanced at 150 MPH to find no improvement.
I had mine balanced at two different tire stores before buying new tires, so that was now three different times and still no improvement. Then a chap from work told me check the u joints in the rear driveshaft, and thats what corrected mine
Next time you go to the tire store, ask for round tire's!!!!!!!!!
I have had nothing but trouble in the past with cheaper tires.
First of you need Factor alumiun wheel that run true. Steel one's don't run true. Over .035 out of round side to side. Then buy round tire's. Seem's like Michelin, BFG, Fireston works good. Then when they mount them. Line the paint mark of the tire up to the vavle stem on the rim. This is suppose to be the High and low spots like up so the tire run true. Then balance them with a good Coats balancer. This is just a start to a smooth ride.
Less Air in a cheep tire works good too.

My Dad's rims were out of round. One by 3/8"! Jack up the truck so the tire is about 1/2" off the ground and place a 2x4 flat right up but not touching it and turn the wheel. It should turn without touching or pulling off the stick. By the way, the dealer lost the wheel and Dodge Corporate's reply was basically tough beans. He kept the other one for proof but won't let it go. By the way, His truck got a new driveshaft..twice. New brake drums, new tires..twice, new shocks, replaced the axle shafts in the rear all under warranty. He quit taking it to the dealer after they said they didn't have any thing else they could do to it. The guy at the local Les Schwab went right to the tires and checked the roundness. Two of his steel wheels were out of round.
