bad trans? TQ?

I just got a 98 12v as a towing truck, without the tailor it drives pretty good, but with a tailor it feels like it is slipping. the tailor is about 16k so i could see y it would have problems. Is it the trans going out or is it the TQ slipping? I dont want to spend 1,000 on a TQ if the trans is crap.

if it were me I would just go with a whole new built transmission and not worry about it anymore...Call up Dave Georand, and you will have no more worries....but as far as your tranns, I am not sure, there are many factors that could cause that...

Need more info to answer the question , symptoms , you may want to drop the pan look at any stuff in the bottom , the color of the fluid , adjust the bands , put a sw. to the lockup .

gotcha, sorry, transmissions are one of those things that i get scared to do maintenance on, on one hand if the transmission hasnt been maintained properlly i.e. change fluid, adjust bands, etc. when you do the maintenance you never know how it will react, good or bad. if it is well taken care of then usually doing the maintenance on it benifits, but I would suggest checking the fluid level as well as adjusting the bands...check the fluid for a burnt smell and discoloration, that will tell you alot as well.

That is a wifes tail , for many yrs , maintainance never will break / kill / damage anything .
A lot of people will believe anything .
Just because , just after some maintainance is done , then some symptom starts / is noticeable , does not mean that it is the cause , it just may help to show what condition something is in , I would rather [ and bet most would want the same ] getting ready for a trip , do a trans service , and have an issue show its ugly head , while I'm close to my known shops , than avoid the maintainance , and break down a 1,000 mile from home , get trans done by someone I do not know , and do not live near enough to use warranty , then bring the usally higher cost , most of the time when on the road , then what if the trany guy did not know about what these trucks need , or do a good job .
Maintain your truck , all the time , then you know what you have , and it will cost your less , no 2 ways about .
