bad news from the trans shop
broken main shaft , lost R, 6TH, AND 5TH gears can either rebuild whats broken or put in a r.m. with 12 month warr for $700 more. thinking of salavge yard but never know what your gonna get from there. any one have any better suggestions.
I think thats a myth. Im sure they still make parts for them......that would be like saying they dont make parts for a turbo hydro 350 or 400 or a chevy 5.7 but, could be wrong to. They may have stopped making the transmission but, Im sure there are parts makers out there for them. Honestly I myself am in the same kind of situation. Our tahoe 350 took a crap and we could buy a junkyard motor for 1100 with 100000+ miles or rebuild for 1375. I went the rebuild route because y go through all the work to do it again sooner than later with a new motor. That way you know exactly how it was broke in and what its history is. Get a remaned one or have them rebuild it with american parts!! Stay away from the junk!!!
Little tid bit bought the tahoe with 105000 miles 6 months ago and now at 107000 its got a rod knocking so you never know how people treat there stuff apparently in my case they beat the crap out of it!!
Good luck with your choice!!

vry hard choice the shop says they can fix the broke one for 2900 or i can get a complete reman for 3600, frinds think i might be able to get one from a salvage yard with a 100000 or less miles for half. if there is any one out there from okc or tx area that can help let me know.
Try this place, they will sell you a complete reman transmission for $ 2800

Ok I was wrong.....I did some research and they dont make parts for them, what is on the shelfs and in the junkyards is it! With that said really sucks but, I found an alternative the...........4500. As far as the conversion goes I believe it is straight forward and basically the same you just lose a gear in between.
This is what I was told.
"To be real honest about it, if you tow heavy down the highway the 5600 is the best tranny in town hands down for these trucks. But for any other application a built 4500 will beat em up. The 4500's shift smoother, high and low gear are the same in both, 4500 weighs far less, is better for racing, better around town manners, parts are cheap and available and any shop around can work on them. None of these things apply to the 5600. I wanted to swap over a few years back and after lookin into it there was no way."

I just (6000miles ago) bought mine from a very reputable shop and it's the one I mentioned above, They had at least 1/2 dozens of them on the shelves ready to install with another dozen cores lying on shelves below. And these were only 5600, they had hundreds of other brands and types.
maybe you need to read my post a little better then think about what you read and you will realize, I didnt say there were none out there. If you didnt know when a tranny shop rebuilds, they re-use the good stuff hense the core return. You take good parts from all different trannys to make one good one. Seals are a no brainer because there are all differnt manufactures out there for those. Also what does hundreds of other brands and types have to do with anything we are talking about? I dont just read forums I do the foot work to but thanks and if they get you no where then why are you reading this one? I have picked up many good pointers and recieved answers I needed. This is here for everyone to share info and experiences not bash others but thank you and merry christmas.
The argument about NV5600 parts being available or not it's as famous as the argument between Dodge/Chevy/Ford.
How do you think a shop will overhaul a transmission ? By robbing the cores ? You've got to be kidding.
Since I shopped for mine then went and bought it in person I had the opportunity to talk and see in person the straight facts, then posted it on internet forums.
I did not read what a member's cousin heard from the son in law of the neighbor which knew from a friend that maybe the parts were not available.
So your research is not accurate. I don't want to bash anybody, but alarming people for facts that are not true it is not much of help.
Merry Christmas to you too.

Unfortunetly thats how tranny shops do it. They would go out of buisness if they put brand new parts in each time. ex shafts gears. I worked for Allison transmissions and thats how its done! So its not as you say word of mouth from someones member's cousin heard from the son in law of the neighbor which knew from a friend that maybe the parts were not available. The fact is they are available and I agree with you But, show me someone who actually makes parts. not has them in stock. All I am doing is sharing other options with this guy. If he wants something differnt it is something for him to research.
