Oh, ok your talking about a G56 right? I was stumped when you said g50. Ya I heard those are nice but heard they have their problems to. Who knows every one of them is going to have a down fall but at least there are parts for those. What scares me and I know nothing about them is that they have aluminum cases if I remember right.

You will now test my memory..about 2500 for the trany, shorten one drive shaft and add to the other 150. (est)
some odds and ends like add or subtract to the linkage for the transfer case
beat out the sheet metal in the bell housing area for the bigger unit.
Ohh , and diff clutch from S, Bend and a reworked flywheel (bigger ) 1000.00
But in all this thing will not go pop and loose O.D. or break mainshafts no more

PS. Now there are parts available from China for past trans troubles...The NV what ever is a PC of crap. Patch it, band aid it, what ever, Gtrag parts were hard to get and it needs them .
The G56 being a Mercedes unit I trust it even if aluminum...till - some issues start to arise here on the board.
Have not seen any yet

I did a search earlier this morning for g56 conversion and there were a couple post where all they could say was bad about the g56. Again I think this is a never ending battle about whats better. Like one guy stated you can break anything if you beat on it hard enough and basically thats where it rest. If you go adding additional power, race, drag, pull, ect ect ect its going to break. Its the nature of the beast it may not break on that pull but its just a matter of time. I love my nv5600 with 128000 all original I just wish parts were easier to get ahold of. Thanks for the info everyone. just my .02

Have a great holiday and god bless

if you really want to do it right get a 6speed Eaton fuller you'll have to modify the tunnel and make a new hole the shifter, and maybe remove the middle seat but you'll never break it

As far as the G56 having problems from just doing their job I do not know of one ..but I am sure I will be in formed.

onlyz. it appears you are in the OKC area, correct? Just go with Blementhals, just used them for my 5600... and yes, parts are available, but they are "made" overseas, they will tell you that. Also, used them for my 4500 conversion in the '93 earlier this past summer. Both units working just fine as of now.

new news

ok...so the trans shop that i went with is called Blumenthals.(not sure on spelling) but they swear that the main shaht and the replacement gears that im getting are new off the shelf...the guy ive been talking with there is named Bill. He tells me that they use no used parts in there rebuilds or in there RMS. they have given me a six month warr. on replacement parts but says that all remans are given a one year unlimited miles.
heres the kicker. The price they originallyquoted me was 2900 on just replacing broken parts and when I told them I was going with a salvaged rebuild he promised that all the parts that were being used in that rebuild were from the salvage yard. the price on that 1500.after all that blumenthals droped there price to 1900

I have an 06 mega cab with the 6spd. I tow heavy and am not impressed at all. Trans was making horrible noises before 35,000 miles. My 5600 towing the same trailer has well over 100,000 and isn't anywhere near as noisy. To say the g56 is a better trans is a joke.
