Axle Ratio Question help

I currently have a 410 rear sure grip in my 1999 2500 4x4
What would the front be ? Does it have to be the same ratio .
I have a chance to purchase a rebuilt front axle that came out of a truck that had 3.55 rear ratio.
thanks in advance!

Yes they have to be the same ratio otherwise you wont be able to use 4wd. And also some axle carriers arent compatible with certain R&P swaps. Meaning, the Dana 60 3.54 might need a different carrier to go up to 4.10. Not a big deal other than more money to make the transition. An axle shop or vendor would be able to answer that question though.

HAHAHAHahahaha
I can tell you what happens when some dumb kid thinks that all differentials from the same year Jeepster had the same gear ratio.
On the trail it will kind of buck and shudder but you could think it was just the rocks and mud doing that. Once you get it on the road with good hard dry asphalt you will get about a quater mile before the universal joint blows up.

I can't say who that kid was but he looked a lot like me when I was younger

Lucky it was just a U-joint, not a T-case or axle that gave up the ghost.
