Melted wire insulation
Melted wire insulation
Hey guys,
I went properly connect my pyrometer power that the PO had put under the ignition fuse and I found a wire with the insulation melted off behind the dash. The wire looks to be Black with a Green line(hard to tell because insulation is gone). Unfortunately lots of them are that color it seems. I started pulling the dash apart to trace it out and replace it, but i quickly realized the entire dash would have to come out to do the job right. Then I started thinking that maybe I should just leave it alone(I don't want to cause more problems and the dash is quite fragile). From what I can tell it goes out to the door at one end and then up behind the instrument cluster on the other end. Right now everything works except for the heated mirrors(the light lights up when the button is pressed but they don't get warm) and the passenger side lock works only sometimes(unlock works just not lock). I don't know of anything else that doesn't work. So I am wondering if the wire is a control for them? if so maybe i could just pull the fuse or not use them? Basically I'm not really good with vehicle wiring and I need some advice on how to proceed. Its been one thing after another with the truck and right now I just want it working. I can deal without heated mirrors if thats what its for. I checked at the plug where the wiring enters the drivers door and there are two wires that are the same color but neither is melted. I also checked at the heater control ***** on the dash where the power mirror button is but none of them is melted either. How can i figure out what the wire is for? I've searched for diagrams but nothing mentions a black and green wire.
Thanks in advance!
