Axle oil replacement

Has anyone tried using a pump to remove the lube fom the axles. I use a pump with a small hose that goes into the oil dipstick tube when changing oil on my boat engines. the pump works off 12 volt and has a 5 gal bucket attached to catch the oil.I wonder if it would work on my truck if I made sure the axles were warm before trying this.

That is the way "Jiffy Lube" and other fast oil change people do it so they don't have to remove the covers. It certainly is an exceptable method of getting the job done. After sucking out the fluid, you can pour some clean fluid in and suck it out again to sort of "wash" it out a little, then refill.

I would take the cover off. That way you can wipe out the inside bottom of that rear end. If it's been awhile since your last change, you probably have some "Gouk" in the bottom of it.

Indeed. I would recommend removing the cover so you can make sure it's nice and clean. It's not hard to do and it's easily worthwhile.

do you have to get a new gasket? or reuse the one that there? I am assuming there is a gasket there. I have never removed it before.

Maybe on a 2004, but mine has no gasket. I would recommend using DC's differential RTV, it seals great the first time.

Changed the front and rear lube per the sugesstions here I pulled the covers and wiped out the inside. (Thanks for the advise) The front is kind of a pain to pour the lube but I used a Pump for putting in outboard lube and it worked fine. The rear is a piece of cake. Then I heated the lube in the micro and poured pretty easy I guess maybe heated to 120 deg or less not hot. I used Valvoline durablend part syn. I think this will be a good lube. It was suggested by a tech who seemed to have some sense. I also sucked out the power steering fluid and replaced with durablend syn. Thanks for the replies and sug.

Will get pictures of Hog here as soon as I figure the pict, thing out also want to get a picture of Blackjack behind the CTD it looks real good
