Axel Nut Torque - Dana 60

Im changing rotors/brakes on my 98...

Anyone know offhand what the torque is supposed to be on the 1 11/16" axle nut? (it was on pretty tight and rusted pretty good)...

I could be wrong, but the nebulous specification I remember is 195-295 ft/lbs. gotta love those exact torque specs.

Finally finished replacing front calipers and rotors. That was an ugly job. 8 years of water, mud, and salt sure doesnt help matters.

So far taking me 2 days on my passenger side one, not having an impact sucks I've broken 2 craftsman 1/2" ratchets, and a cheap one and it hasn't even budged, but the driver's side one came off easy... starting to think there is no way its near 175 ft/lbs ....o well!

for this truck you need a set of 1" ratchets. One time I had to take my steering pitman arm (still on th shaft) to my old boyz shop. "Yea we can take that off for $5". It was the most fun $5 I had spent in a long time. It took them over an hour and everybody in the shop was working on it. At the end it was "That will be $5", I just smiled.

Later I took it back for the same axel nut you guys are talking about. They brought out their 1" impact. "Ittle do 2000 pounds." I said "Nice". These guys are enjoying the challenge and did not charge me.

I feel your pain guys. But the one and only thing that got the nut off was a cold Lone Star beer! Keep workin at it, it'll come off, but you'll probably mess the threads up on the shaft. IF THE THREADS ARE BAD, DO NOT TRY AND PUT THE NUT BACK ON!! Just spend 100 bucks for another axle shaft.
