Auto Transmision fluid

Wondering if anyone on here has tried running something like UTF or Some other type of heavy equipment fluid in their trans? I've got a full Billet DTT with around 28K on it & have only run generic advance auto ATF in it from the get go. Not even the +4 variety. "Thats what the DTT builder put in it". Just looking for something I can buy in a 5 Gal bucket, surely some of the industrial fluids are up to snuff with Mopar's overpriced ATF+4

Amsoil to over priced for my taste, Plus never seen it in a 5 gal container. Can buy 5 gals of CAT or Deere powershift fluid for what 3 gals of Amsoil cost. "At least in my shopping around" Plus have plenty of both of those on hand as well as other hydro fluids.
I've never been one to buy into the salesman speaches for how much better some niche product is over the everyday stuff. All seem like infomercial blab. Did run Amsoil once in my 98 & never noticed the trans temps any cooler & was just as burnt smelling at 12k when it was changed. Just curious what others have tried before.

I dont sell it, but after loosing several autos running conventional ATF I bought this truck brand new ,dumped the oil and refilled with Amsoil this is the results I got and No one can convince me other wise . the tranny shop that rebuilt it had never seen one with that many miles on it having never been rebuilt other then a new valve body around 350k or so But, He did say it was really hammered and surprised it was still moving on its own power.
anyways you asked what others have tried your entirely free to run what ever you like

You can get Dexron in 5 gallon buckets. It's how I buy my personal stuff.

Many of the industrial oils do not have the same detergent action. This is the case with some synthetics as well.

But a trans will run on hydraulic and even motor oil. I have tried it all back in my racing days,

Dave

I've been wanting to put john deere hytrans in one of mine. The tranny shop I use has a lot of guys using it in racing glides. They even mix it at different levels with atf to change the stall speed on the convertor. A buddy runs it in a 8 second turbo vette with a glide with good luck. It doesn't seem to burn get burnt like atf.
They make two different weights of the john deere stuff I think.

Use of any product beside ATF+4 is without merit. It has proven it's value in Chrysler products. Get it at Wally world or where you find it cheaper. As long as it has the +4 on the bottle it is equal to point of not being able to tell with time. Chrysler engineers spent way more time and money than any aftermarket company could possiblly on Chrysler tranny's to prove worth. Many of the company's take attitude that this is what I offer for everything else, it has to be good for anything you can put it in. Advertising!!!!!! makes it right. Yea!!!

DTT's run well on Dexron III type ATF fluid. They don't need ATF+4, unless you want to make your shifts smoother.
But Universal Tractor Hydraulic Fluid is a long way down the list from Dexron III. Some UTF fluids will meet Dexron II specs but most don't.
None meet Dexron III, that I have tested. It's the additive package that's different, and the difference is considerable.

10-15 yrs ago, automatic trannys in pick ups ran well on Dexron II, Hyd/Transmission fluids. Thus the misconception that it's ok to use it.
Will it run and work ok for a while? ...yes. Should you use it in your DTT?.... I wouldn't.

If you can find a UTF that meets Dexron III, go for it.

Yes, I have run Hydraulic fluid in my trans.
At each change--10,000 miles--- it alway had more debris in the pan. I switched back to atf and it is clean again.
Atf is a better fluid.
I've been using Schaeffers and feel it is by far the best I've used, but you will be ok with atf+3. If you get some shudder on lock up add a bottle of Lube Guard to it.
