Its the Happi box. www.happibox.com I dont know about the ats filter, but I can tell you that the Happi box fixed mine and I would have paid any price for it. The dealership told me that of all the trucks that they service (with this problem) there were 2 that they couldnt fix. One was mine. I bought the Happi box and have not had another problem for 2 years (knock on wood).
I think the Happi box does a little more than just filter the signal.

My truck had a simular problem. It would shift back and forth between 40-50mph. I took it to a dealer and they tried to get me to buy a new apps sensor but i said no way with a $500 price tag. It still did it for another 3 months after this and one day it just all of a sudden started working like it should. So i never did find out what was causing it. Good luck.

No it's not "good" for your torque converter to be going "lock/unlock" in that manner. That's my story and I'm sticking to it....

....and an interesting story. I once installed a lift pump on a truck and the customer left and came back within 15 minutes stating something wasn't right. Went for a ride with him and the torque converter was locking/unlocking. He swore it never did anything like that. I installed another pump and no problem. Scary huh!?!

I just fixed mine this weekend, I what i did was very simple, I used the bolt on top on the APPS housing and wired it to the negative terminal on the driver side. I will have a pic soon in my gallery.

This seems to be a common problem as my truck was also doing pretty much the same thing and a freind ran some flash programs on it which didnt work then he ran another flash program on it and cleaned some connections or something on the apps and it was fixed..........never new which one fixed it... I wouldnt think it would damage your tranny but it cant be good for it either...

I have a 1997 dodge cummins. the problem you have sounds the same as mine after i had my trans. rebuilt. my problem was the throttle position sensor. $250 at the dealer. i kept calling the place that did my trans telling him the problem and that is what he what he said it was, i switched the sensor and the problem was fixed.
