APPS issue?

Ok forumites, help me noodle this one…

About 2 years ago my truck stopped responding to pedal input. It basically fell flat on its face and even though I was floored at 50, I was still loosing speed. On the side of the road, I find that if I floor it in neutral, the RPMs jump up to around 1700 then its almost like it pulls fuel and it sounds awful and barely makes its way past 1800.

After fiddling with it, and re-starting it several times it just magically starts working again.

6 months ago, I’m driving down the road and the same thing happens again. I note that I was doing about 56mph which would be about the speed it happened a few years ago, and much like the first situation, I was in traffic that was moving at a perfectly constant speed on a perfectly flat and straight road.

The pedal position happens to correspond exactly with the area that the pedal is in when the torque converter does its rather violent lock/unlock cycles.

Is it possible that I have a dead “section” in my APPS, or is it likely to be a grounding issue?

I’ve also notice that my fuel mileage is awful, around 11mpg to be exact

Any ideas?
