Antifreeze dripping from bellhousing?
Antifreeze dripping from bellhousing?
We are traveling, so I am posting this from my phone and was unable to search for the problem.
Truck us a '01 3500 4x4 with 6spd
I noticed antifreeze dripping from the hole in the bellhousing.
I'm guessing a freezeplug or headgasket? Hoping you guys tell me something else.
We have had a few 20 degree nights here in Texas, but I just did a coolant flush and refill back in July, so I wouldn't think anything would have froze.
The truck had the heater core also replaced back in July, so I checked the hose connections at the firewall and they aren't leaking.
If anyone can give me some advice or suggest other thingsbto check I would appreciate it
thanks

At a glance looking under the truck the dripping fluid looked like coolant.
After getting home tonight and taking a closer look it is FUEL.
One of the fuel lines going to the lift pump is also soaked in fuel along with the front 4x4 driveshaft and much of the underbody from there back.
Now I am off to search these forums for common leakes in that area.
We had a local shop install a new lift pump back in the summer, so maybe he lost an o-ring or didn't get one of the lines reinstalled correctly, not sure.

There is a return line that attaches to the rear of the head, right in the center, with a banjo fitting. You won't be able to see it, as it is right against the firewall, but stick your hand back there and see if it's loose or wet.

Thanks for the tip to check the return at the back of the head.
I did check it and its not wet back there. But, I did find a brass T which appears to be some type of compression fitting which this line and 2 others tie in to.
I believe it is the T that is leaking. I was able to tighten the bottom of the T on the line returning to the tank.
I'm not sure how to replace the T part
Any suggestions on what to remove to easily allow the best access to change this part?
Thanks,
RA
