Another Transmission issue

Looking for some help. When I am going along in overdrive and I let off the trottle to say stop for a traffic light or stop sign, the transmission seems to go into a coast mode, RPM drops from 1800 to 900. Obviously this is pretty hard on the brakes everytime I have to stop.

Any suggestions? is the trans toasted??? I have only owned this particular truck for a short time and am not really sure if the truck is shifting correctly.

Truck is a 1999 QC 4x4. Thanks.

The trans is doing what it was deigned to do.

You could use a lockup switch to hold the gear and I would recommend a device to increase line pressures if this was done all the time.

All of this would matter very little without an E-brake as the engine does not have any throttle plates to help the engine braking.
