Another 53 block

Well, I was wollerin' around under my truck again and descided to take a looksee over at the oil pan, well, there it was, a big fat 53 stamped on my block. No problems or leaks as of now, with 96,000 on her now, but you can bet I'll be watching. I think Cummins needs to publically recognize the problems with these " 53 " blocks and do some sort of a recall. We could only get so lucky !!!!!! Just my .10 cents.

If it's OK now, don't worry about it. It may last forever if you maintain the coolant and don't bomb it much. Just a little nudge to keep in mind if you are thinking about a new/different truck.

I have been reading and reading and reading some more over the last week and I see many different post on this subject. I was at the dealer today getting them to do my front brakes due to lack of time, whille it was up on the lift I went ahead and looked at the block and there it was...the #53. My question is this, since I have this block that seems to be a problem child, should I bother making any mod's to my truck or just leave it alone. I don't want to throw my money away if it will only cause problems.

On another note, they have a PERRRRTY red 04 - 600 HO, 6spd 4x4, 4 door LOADED on the lot and offered to make me a pretty good deal on it. Still waiting to here what they would give me for mine before I hash it out in my brain. I kind of wanted to enjoy no truck note for a while after paying mine off this past Mon. I sure do like them new ones though . That new car smell got to me I think, I can't get it out of my mind

calls, you took the thought right out of my mind. I dont know if I should spend any more money and just ride it out untill I can afford a new one. I'm really waiting to see what problems arise with the new ones.

The last thing I'm going to do is WORRY about my 53 block ! I have no signs of cracking, ie, loss of coolant, I'm just going to keep on meticulously maintaining my truck and drive it like normal. I just ordered a new intercooler boot kit from Piers Diesel Research, mine are getting kind of dry- rotted, so, all is good so far, thanks for the replies and keep on rattling !!!
