Amsoil

How many of you guys are running the amsoil ? What is your opinion of it good or bad. Do you think it's worth it?

I run the Amsoil 15w-40 Diesel Marine Oil in mine and change every 7500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. I will be changing oil & filter this week, just hit 15k. I buy it at the "Preferred Customer" discount for $60. for 4 gallons. Every third oil change is for free cause of the gallon left over. I order the oil and gas filter kits from Geno's. The engine runs a little cooler and is easier starting in cold weather.

I order the oil and have it within 2 days. Only wish there was a way to get around the shipping charges.

If I took it to the dealer, they would charge me over $70 for an oil and filter change with MOPAR dino oil.

I don't care about the cost of AMSOIL...I'm running one of the best synthetics on the market.

I run it front to rear. I like it. I prefer synthetics. Is it worth it? Well that really depends on personal thinking. It is worth it for me. I run extended drains with oil analysis so I end up changing my engine oil twice a year (filters more often with make up oil, I also use a bypass filter). In the spring I switch to the 15-40 becasue I like the heavier weight in the warm months and in the fall I switch to the 5-30 where I like the thinner. Works out great for me. This allows me to run the syn and I enjoy what I perceive to be the benefits from it and makes it cost effective. In the rest of the vehicle I definitely prefer syns so whether it is amsoil or something else I would still run syn so cost is not an issue for me in that area.

Been running syn in it since new and changed the engine oil over to syn at about 14k. Now have 102k with zero problems

That being said many members use dino oil and are quite happy with it and their trucks seem to be too. So it is all about personal preference.

Sorry, I'm not... But it is a popular oil though. For me it is too far away to buy and too expensive. $60 for 4 Gallons...Ouch!

I buy good ol' dino... Phillip 66 15w-40 by 5 Gallons @ $33.85...

The best part I only have to drive half the distance to get it! 120 Miles... For me to get any of the syn oil's I would have to drive at least 300 + miles... At today's fuel prices forget it!

I ran the last oil 50,000 miles and when Scheid tore my engine down at 147,000 miles, they said it was the cleanest engine they had ever seen inside (t-stat stuck pulling the mountain and scorched #6 piston, no oil failure). They said the bearings didn't have any wear at all. I run the oil 25,000 miles now since I have upped the HP some but I have the dual remote system also. I am a dealer and no I am not recommending this or trying to sell oil, I am just telling you what I know. I have been using it for over 20 years now and even ran the same oil 60,000 miles (4 1/2 years) in my old 89 diesel.
As far as cost, I'm not really concerned about that. I go on what "I think is best" for my engine. You have to run what makes YOU feel good since you are the one footing the bills.

$15.00 @ gallon is cheap for a top quality synthetic! Amsoil is one of the 2-3 very best on the market! It's cheap insurance for our engines, and at 8-10,000 miles oil & filter changes - IMHO, cost effective.

Rossn2 - If you ever get to Dallas, Amsoil has a warehouse near Six Flags, on the South side of the Metroplex. That's where I pick mine up - No shipping charges.

Bumper to bumper here. Recent convert to the stuff. I did it because it makes sense to me from an economic stand point. I can't offer any perceived performance increases, cause I haven't changed it out yet and have no quantitative info from doing an oil analysis. I have also done other things to the truck in the meantime that makes any fuel economy comparisons useless. Oh the BOMB bug....

Another big reason for me is that it "makes me feel good". This stuff ain't a by-product of long forgotten creatures from places across the pond and so forth and so on....

Right now just running it in the diff's. Working great in there. Still undecided if it would be cost effective to run in the motor yet. I change every 6-7K, and I rack up that many miles in < 3 months easily.

Thanks for the info guy's, I currently run the Rotella 15-40 and change every 5k unless I work it harder then normal then I change it sooner. Then theres my wifes truck, 98 1/2, 24 valve, so I usually end up changing the oil in it in between my oil changes so it seems like I'm always changing oil in something. I'm just getting tired of changing oil every 4-6 weeks.

This month makes three years we've had our truck. After the break-in period I put in Amsoil 15-40 Diesel Marine and the dual by-pass filter system. I have been sampling the oil every three to four months. I change the spin-on filter every six months, the by-pass filter once a year and top off the oil as needed at that time. We're averaging 20,000 miles a year. Each sample has come back with OK for continued use of the oil. Initially it was a lot of money but in the long run has more than paid for itself in oil changes. No reason so far to change all the oil out. Also running Amsoil in the rear diff.

I have used AMSOIL for 12 years. I have it in my boat, lawn mower, tractor, wifes Durango, my sons Grand Am and my Dodge, front to rear. I've been pre-mixing oil and gas at a 100-1 ratio in my outboard since she was new in 93. Never had a problem.
