alarm system?
alarm system?
I just picked up a SWEET low mileage 01 3500 4WD from Arizona.
I still have my 99 just like it, sold my 03 for this, sold my other 01 3500 to a friend, so I'm pretty familiar with these trucks
once in a while the doors lock by them self's and when you open the door the horn goes off.
can you shut that off?

Are you sure the key fob button isnt hitting something by accident? Especially being in my pocket. Happens to me all the time. Be sitting in the house and I hear the horn chirp outside or the alarm goes off.
it apparently has a factory alarm system, first time it went off I was at the dealer, keys in the ing. when he was putting my temporary sticker in the back glass, he was in the back seat and the horn just started honking, he grabbed the fob and pushed a button.
next time, with keys in it I had the windows down and went to open the door and it was locked?? I didn't lock it, opened the door and the horn went off.
made some spare keys and unlocked the door and guess what.......
I was only given I fob with the truck and only that fob will stop it.
I would like to disarm the factory alarm system.
there I some information in the owners manual, but not what I need.
Thanks!

Maybe the fob is bad. The good and bad with the fobs these trucks have is they work from far far away. I like that because I can make sure my truck is locked if I forget and I'm half way across the parking lot but.....this is also why my truck will chirp the horn in the garage when I'm somewhere in the house too.
Try taking the battery out of the fob first. You can still use the factory alarm without the fob.

the fob is fine, it has factory optional alarm system.
it has a little red light by dome lite that flashes red when it senses danger!
then it flashes blue when it is safe.
I just want to shut that system off.
my wife and 2 boys all drive it at one time or another, we all have keys to each others cars/trucks. if one of my kids come to work and swap out for the truck they'll need the only fob I have. it must disarmed with the fob first or honk honk honk...................

Not sure what to tell ya, because that doesnt sound like any factory alarm system I've heard of on these trucks. To the best of my knowledge the alarm systems on these trucks dont sense anything and there's no blue light turning red or visa versa. I'll have to check mine of that but I'm pretty sure I'm thinking right.

Let me know too, I don't want the alarm active.
I got my truck without fobs, I have since acquired some, but I don't like what dealers charge to set them up.
If I am not careful locking the doors, I set the stupid thing off when I unlock and open doors.

I called Chrysler yesterday right here in Michigan.
She said to call a dealer, I said I have and got no answer.
then she said to ask for the service manager and have him call Chrysler support. They will know if it is possible or not.
I goggled it with my phone and found some interesting reading, it may be possible, I hate reading off that little screen, so I aborted.

I've owned this truck for a couple months now, I've also came to the conclusion there is something wrong with it.
the door lock and the horn honks randomly just setting there, no one in or near the truck.
while driving you put the windows up and the doors lock (even though there already locked)
does the PCM control this system? or is there a BCM like cars?

The factory alarm system as well as the available one over the parts counter is called EVS II.
It is just a noise maker for the most part. It has an adjustable shock sensor to detect "motion" when the truck moves or "wiggles" in the wind and it monitors the dome light for when the a door opens.
Very easy to defeat, very easy to remove, pretty much useless compared to any real alarm system out in the marketplace. As simple as it is, failure of the components is very common.
You can't get the system anymore from the dealer and parts have never ever been available. It all plugs into the steering column under the shrouding around the turn signal/ignition switch so it is fairly compact.
The main brain is a small black box about an inch and a half square or so usually sitting somewhere in the dash/steering column area. This box does have an adjustable potentiometer for the shock setting.
There should be/usually is a reset button somewhere along the bottom of the dash. It is black also, about 1/4 inch in diameter, used to reset the alarm after it has been triggered or used to start the truck in the event of a missing fob.
The fob is needed to set the alarm up. Lights flash when unlocking and locking the doors, horn chirp when doing the same, etc. Simple setup but useless without the fob.
A search of this site as well as a general Google search will give you a ton of info.
I have installed a ton of these as well as ripped out probably a hundred times more. Just about every one I have installed has been set up with minimum parameters so that just the lights flash and the horn chirps when you lock/unlock the doors.
I have gone so far as to defeat the system very easily in front of the dealer on his lot with his brand new trucks to show him the EVS is a joke.
Do a few quick searches and then just unplug it all. The only thing left in the truck will be the red LED on the overhead console. And just so you know, a lot of these trucks did not come with the LED.
Hope it helps,
Jeff
