Air conditioner quit

1998.5 24 valve Dodge Cummins
The air conditioner just quit cold turkey. Has always worked great. No noise , no slowup no nothing . just quit . Had my buddy turn it on and off at heater switch. Clutch on compresser doesnt do anything.
Question,--- Does this mean the clutch is shot or could there be other problems??

Its a little more complicated than that. There is a compressor fuse in the power dist box on the left side of the engine compartment. The clutch is also controlled by the PCM. IF the freon pressure is too low it will shut off. So there could be any number of things wrong.

Like said above, few things controlling it. Some systems ( dunno if our trucks have them) have a high presure switch that shuts it off if it cant cool. but if it never works i doubt thats the problem. Unless your oriface has crapped out. Where are ya at?, Ive got the guages and machine to take a check if your around Sioux City IA

just a suggestion, my compressor stopped one morning and when i checked the freon level, it was empty. i have to recharge it about once every three to four weeks. It's leaking in the air box, probably the evaporator. I checked it with a sniffer and it only detects gas leakage when i first turn the air on then it stops.

Food for thought

Unhappy Air Conditioner Quit

My 1998.5 air quit on me. It kept blowing but was hot air. Took it in and dealer said the clutch was out and it was low on coolant.

Was a $379.00 fix for labor clutch and coolant.
