Air conditioner air compressor?

Does anyone have any idea how to convert a rotary air conditioning compressors to an air compressor. I've seen articles for converting the old piston type compressors and I know that they do have rotary air compressor available for a price. I was just wonder. Mike

Sanden has one out, I know some of the internals have to be replaced to do the conversion properly but I haven't seen anything on a DIY level.

The York 210 (piston type) can be done without the conversion, you just have to watch the oil consumption with them.

Is it an electric rotary from a residential AC? They were directional and weren't that good of compressors. I had a neighbor who used a coplamatic and it worked fine. I've made a bunch of them out of the york and tecumseh 208, 209 and 210s. Take the head off and plug the oil return hole on the suction side. Now I have a trane 214 from a thermoking unit, driven by a 3hp 3 phase motor running on single phase and it's worked great for nearly 30 years. Craig

I tried once with the stock ac pump on a 5.0 302 ford. I had an oiler and I just couldnt get it to work. I finally bought a sanden for that same motor from Kilby and it is still working to this day on my off-road truck. I also have a york on my cummins and it works good as well. The air or the winch may be the best accessory I have owned. I will go out on a limb and say it is the air compressor on my trucks, but now I will probably get stuck this weekend in the snow with the gooseneck in tow because of this last statement. The sanden was pretty cheap but that was 12 years ago that I bought it. I know on the sanden it has a resevoir and you need to add oil to it. It has a metric bolt on the top of the compressor. My old compressor didnt have that.

I'm looking at a new Sanden with a greaseable fitting. Engage the clutch, pump 5 or 6 times, and do that about 2 or 3 times a year. Still doing some research on it, but right now the price difference is about $400 cheaper than an Oasis XD-3000 (no extra battery, no extra cables, no box needed to mount it into, etc.) and the install sheet have made it out to be a better choice from the aspects of installation and price.

Numbers-wise, it performs similar to an Oasis (14 CFM @ 0psi, 7 CFM @ 100psi, approved for restart @ 150psi, made to handle up to 200psi) and in a much smaller package.
