AIC ?
AIC ?
Is it possible to put an AIC on our trucks? I would guess that you could but I wasn't sure on how to do it. I saw one that gives you a range from idle to 1500 rpm but it was alot of $$$.
I had a home made setup on my psd that only cost me $40. Worked like a charm. All the old one was was pretty much an extra throttle via a **** on the dash, ran from the wires from the foot feed. Oh yeah there were some diodes and stuff too. I have a list. Just a thought.
Chase

Re:AIC ?
I've got a setup that works not bad. All it is is, a locking pull throttle cable mounted under the dash. I then drilled a small hole at the top of the "foot pedal arm", fed the wire through with a throttle stop on the other side. Must admit thoght, it's a little hard to get set, because the dash seems to give just enough that when I let go, the idle drops back down. A better set-up would be a cable that you can screw out the **** to fine tune. Another thing I"ve been kicking around is the thought of an "idle stop solenoid", used on some of the older carbed cars. The only thing is, I'm not sure if one could handle full power for 2 or 3 hours at a time. I'm thinking, mounting it under hood, with a bracket of some sort, mounted close to the throttle at the pump. Hit the toggle switch in the cab, giving power to the solenoid, it shoots out and up against the throttle to a preset RPM. If anybody has an idea if this would work, if one of these solenoids could handle it, let me know. It's not a big investment(solenoid at about 20 bucks) but if they'd only last a week, what's the point!
Re:AIC ?
Well what I was thinking was since there is no throttle cable on the truck I would hook up a system that would run off the wires that go from the peddle to the ecm or whatever it hooks up to. You know trick the computer into thinking that the footfeed is being pressed when it is not.
Chase
Re:AIC ?
This may sound crazy, but I was just going to post the same question. An AIC is an Auxiliary Idle Controler. Ford has them as an option on thier trucks. The principal behind it is that it helps the electrical system matain the proper output when under load, i.e. heavy electricly use. The other purpose, which is what I'm looking into it for is, you can set it at a higher idle when you intend to be idling for an extended period of time which they say reduces cylinder glazing. I do a lot of plowing and salting and the truck runs for roughly 30 hours at a time. So the idle controler will allow me to ramp up the idle when I know I'll be sitting for a bit My other question is, does anyone have two alternaters installed on thier truck?

Re:AIC ?
???Question for Slimchase. Ok, so your 2002 is different than my 2001? Mine is cable controlled from foot pedal to what I'm gonna call the throttle at the front driver side of the engine. I wouldn't have thought the 2002's were different. Let me know.
Re:AIC ?
Can't see why one of those anti-diesel solenoids from the late 70's & early '80s carbed engines wouldn't work. They used to be energized w/ 12V any time the key was on to kick up idle speed and shut down the venturi to prevent the run-on common in those years. Can't see why you could'nt make up a bracket to fit. Thought about doing this myself. Let us know how you mke out. Have the cold idle enabled, but w ould like more control on temps near or above. 30 F. TGCTD

Re:AIC ?
TGCTD: Ya, I think I'm gonna try it. I figure I'll pick up one of these solenoids, and just put it on a bench hooked to a battery for a few hours, see how it works out. I think it would be a pretty slick and easy way to do it, if it works. The only draw back I can forsee, is that there wouldn't be a real easy adjustment to it, without getting under the hood to change where it's set. Anyhoo, I'll let everybody know when I try it as to how it's working out. It won't be for awhile though, as the truck is in the shop about 900 miles away, and won't be getting it back for about a week!
Re:AIC ?
There is a man named Harold from Idaho that makes High Idlers for 12 and 24 valve engines. When I get home, I will post the info. They range from 35.00 for manual, 45.00 for the autos. I have one, and it works Great!

Mike

Wow don't I feel STUPID
. I was thinking about how the setup on my old PSD was and didn't realize there was a cable. So to awnser you Fitzer, they are the same. I guess when you mess with things for so long then you get rid of it you kinda forget that everything is not the same. This gives me another question, how does the dealer controll the idle when they are working on the truck? Do the push the foot feed or do the hook a computer up and it does it? I am not trying to make this harder than it is for everyone, heck I even confused myself there for a while.
Marine how much control does it give you? Like what range.
CHase

Re:AIC ?
When you want to idle up, you press the on button, ramp the accelerator up to 1200 or so, and it is on. It is a solenoid. For the manual trans, just turn it off before you put in gear. Answer your question?

Mike
