Greatest site on earth if you have a Cummins. 99 3500 5 spd. Yesterday, the truck actually cranked and started..
As soon as I drove it got the check engine light on.. took it to the local diesel mechanic... crankshaft position sensor was the reading.... got it fixed.
Today, I just don't feel right about the LP and am certainly (after reading all bad stuff on the VP44) not comfortable taking the truck on a trip.
Fortunately, (I guess) I replaced the VP44 and LP last year and still have 8 days of warranty left on them. The reason I say this is that today, the truck did not start right up, I had to crank it twice. Never had to do that before.
The check engine light has not come on.
I think before the truck would surge forward when starting off, today she is very, very tame.
Should I just take the truck to the place where the lift pump and VP44 were installed, even without codes? Or should I just put on fuel pressure gauge, watch it for a couple of days, prior to warranty running out.
It just feels weird, or maybe, I am just dissappointed with the minor stuff that makes these beautiful trucks such a pain in the s.
All comments/ideas are appreciated and needed ASAP.

Oh by the way, the tuck is idling at 800 rpms. I drove it all day with A/C on in city traffic. Handled beautiful. Stomped on it a couple of times on long roads to 90 mph...
No smoke, no nothing.
Does smell a bit more of disel fumes, but that was just my wife's sensitive smell I guess... Just continuing to add more so I can receive all your advice.
Thanks

Hey bud, well a FP gauge is a very good idea and that would be the first thing that i put on it. I still have the factory style LP and i keep one spare with me. VP's are a wild one sometimes you get a good one and sometimes not so lucky. I did not know alot about the VPs need for fuel until i became a member of this site. And i also do not know how long mine went with out fuel. I have put 60k miles on it since it had no fuel. So it is a 50, 50, 90 shot. Good luck to you and keep an eye on the LP pressure and you should be fine.
