I have a 98 24v ram and the ABS LIGHT and the Brake light come one and the truck will not shift out of 1st. Also the speedo with not work when the lights are on.

What could that be?

 

sounds like speed sensor (at least)

 

Yes, I'd say the one on the rear differential, as that is tied into the ABS as well as the speedometer.

I replaced the speed sensor on the rear axle. That worked for about 1 min. Then the lights came back on and the speedo stop working again. What else could it be. My wastegate won't open eather. the scane tool i have said. thanks mike

 

Where have all the grimlins come from? A lot of the usual fixes seem to be striking out these days.

 

Did the original come out in one piece?
Did you check the gap on the new one to make sure it wasn't riding up against the gears, and thus getting chewed up?

It came out in one peice and was the same spacing. I don't get it. Could it be a some thing else. thanks Mike

 

Check for broken wires from the speed sensor. Same thing was happening to me, and that seemed to fix it.

 

the speedo gets its signal from the abs sensor on top of the rear diff housing.unplug the sensor connector and use a multimeter to check continuity of the sensor. if it doesnt shift from first check the output speed sensor at the rear of the trans.

 

take the tape off of the wire that goes from the connector up along the frame about 2 ft. some times the wire will break inside the insulation and will cause an intermt. connection.

 

I took the tape off and it seemed to be ok i cleaned the wires and check it good. the trans sensor was changed and it still will not work .
