I have a chance to buy a 99 regular cab 2wd, with 400,000miles, rough body, but not totally trashed, with a lift gate for $1000. It has a good title. However, the trans is not working, probalby shot.(automatic.) Is it worth it? It runs good with little to no smoke. All stock. Everything works(except trans).

I don't really need more work, but.....................

Engine is worth well more than $1k. Buy the truck, sell the engine and scrap the rest and you're still money ahead.
