98.5 running bad
98.5 running bad
I have a 98.5 with new injector pump, injectors, and lift pump and the engine still runs really rough at 1500 rpm and pedal to the floor top speed is 40 mph with white smoke as it cuts out. Does any one have any idea dodge dealer not sure either.
White smoke is a symptom of raw fuel coming out of the exhaust and can be caused by several different problems. The most common is a timing failure in the VP44. You will need to read the code with a scanner and hope you don’t see P0216. The second most common problem is no or a negative fuel pressure due to a non-working lift pump or plugged fuel filter or possibly a plugged fuel tank pickup tube. Measure the fuel pressure at the most forward brass fitting at your fuel filter to make sure it is at least 10 psi with the engine running.. If you do not monitor the pressure full time with an add-on gauge, you should. Finally if air is severely restricted to the intake from a blocked air filter or a collapsed intercooler boot, there may not be enough air for a complete burn and this could cause raw fuel to exit the exhaust.
My guess is if the fuel pressure is OK the injection pump looks to be bad.

You need to pull the codes, and get back with us. We can move forward after we get the codes. Sounds like a timing problem, which means the VP, or lack of fuel, which means filter or lift pump.
