I just bought a 01 2500 H.O 6 spd. with 18K miles. It seems to make alot more noise than I am used to. Like when you let off the accelerator in 4th or 5th gear. just wondering if they are all that noisy. Clutch still feels like it is brand new and truck has never been used to pull anything

We have similar trucks. Something in my drivetrain makes noise when I decel in a higher gear (i.e. when I don't downshift) and the engine speed nears idle. To be honest I'm not sure if it's the tranny or maybe hanger bearings or even the rear end, or if it's normal or not. I ignore it.

I'd suggest replacing the tranny oil (search here for details) for peace-of-mind. I put Redline MTL in mine and my stock fill was low.

 

Mine is quiet or at least I can't hear it over the sound of the engine
Oh also my stock fill was a bit low too...replaced stock with Royal Purple SynchroMax.

 

Mine has always made a certain noise at certain times. Sounds tinny. I have never figured out if it is the trans or the driveline. It happens when I have my camper on which is most of the time.
