5th gear nut: what problems?

Having problems shifting my nv4500. changed master/slave and new fluid.

Got to thinking. What at the symptoms of the 5th gear nut backing off?
The above "fixes" have only slightly improved shifting.

The biggest problem is shifting into reverse, but if I shift into 5th (which is occasionally difficult) then I can get it straight into reverse.

Just grasping at things here. I have never had any work done on the tranny, so have no clue if my 5th nut is loose.

Any thoughts?
Thanks.

the nut holds the gear on and thats it. could be clutch its self or possibly the synchros could be going out which is what it kinda sounds like to me

had similar problems - 2yrs ago and the clutch slave replacement remedied the problem - this april had hard shifting again that progressively worsened and replaced the clutch - "was worn and heated badly" (said the tech) we resurfaced and balanced the flywheel and replaced the clutch with a carbon fiber HD type clutch - so far so good - time will tell

I am just at a loss. Gearhead sup at work thinks the pilot bearing is worn and cocked slightly.
I'd been thinking syncros for a while.
For now, it is only getting driven when needed until I get it looked at.

You said you also changed fluid, was it the right oil for the 4500? that can make it hard to get in gear and the thought of a bad pilot bearing is possible
