53 block recall?

I called on a 98 24v today and asked if she knew if it is a 53 block. The girl said she got the truck from her uncle who said that " most of those trucks were recalled and therefore it is not" I asked if he actually looked and she said yes.
I've never heard that they were recalled. Is this true? The truck is a few hours away and would be ****** to go see it and find out they lied.
Thanks

I would call BS on that one. There's plenty of 53 blocks out there that probably won't ever have a problem. Mines a 53 and I'm not really concerned about it.

Mine is a 53 and I have never even thought about it.... It worried me in the beginning, but enough research proves that more 53 blocks live out their lives without cracking than actually crack.... So, if it is, go with it, it will be fine......

53 was never recalled... a 53 in a 12v wouldn't scare me. I've owned two of them.

but I wouldn't touch a 24v w/ a 53 block

Recalls are done on items that affect personal safety. 53 blocks were never recalled.

Were there other castings available in the early years on these trucks or are they all 53 block castings?

There were others, mainly the mexican blocks with the small numbers instead of the big 5X on it.

395k km on my 53 24v, still holding all its coolant.

Tate could you elaberate on that ? Mine has big tall an wide numbers on the passengers right behind the A/C compressor . Were there 53 blocks that had been manufactured after they figured out they had a proublem an the difference in the size of these numbers was how they identified them ? Or did
the ones with the large numbers come from a different plant ?
