53 block
so above oil pan on driver side has like a 5-6 digit numbers/letters, mexican!? not 53 i hope, didnt see a 53 anywhere on the front r/l, or sides just this multi digit right above the oil pan lip on the driver side, sound good?
I haven't heard of any problems except the 53.
The 53 is made in Mexico - same numbers - no Spanish --
The numbers can be in different places but usually left or right side within about 4 inches of the front and a couple inches above the top of the pan. Left side can be under the big wire harness under the PS pump.

According to all the information I found, the 53 was made in Brazil. The Mexican blocks are the good ones that don't crack. My apparent Mexican block just has a string of smaller numbers and/or letters. The 53 on the Brazilian block is quite large in comparison to the string of numbers that you'll see on the Mexican block.
WreedCTD, according to the link in the second post:
Who Should Worry?
Those owners of a Cummins 24v ISB engine in a 1998-2001 model year vehicle. This does not only affect Dodge Rams. The 53 block was also used in medium duty trucks from different manufacturers, mobile homes, public school buses and mass transportation buses.
Update: Recent information I have received from a 1998 12v owner says that some late 12v engines have "53" blocks. This owner knows because he HAS one. His truck has a build date of 11-97. He did say, however, that he has had no problems with his block, regularly pulling heavy trailers in the Rocky Mountains.
