I don't think this would be caused by bad synchro's.
If you are losing your 5th gear nut it may be a symptom.
Let this soak overnight and see if some of the trans knowledgable guys chime in.

I am not real familiar with the Dodge tranny's but that is usually indicative of a bent shift fork. A lot of the time it is from launching in first and trying to speed shift to second, it doesn't go easily so people pull harder hence the bent fork.

I'll give you my two cents,
To me it sounds like some or all of your synchronizer struts for that synchronizer are wore or broke. Baisicly there like dual action detents, detents that hold the synchro hub in place. (see pic.) There about 10-15$ for a set.
Since you can get it in gear, I assume with no grinding or other problems, that would say synchro's and forks are ok.
Bad news is the whole thing needs to come apart to replace them.
you can pick up kits cheap, but you get what you pay for....
