Re:5-sp Tranny problems/warranty

What are the chances of the ******* actually analyzing the lube to see if it was the cause?

Possible, but probably unlikely. Fortunately I don't have much time hanging around dealer shops (car places), but for the times I have, I've never seen any technician pulling any LO samples.

If memory recalls, isn't GL5 stinky/stinkier than GL4? Maybe its the sulpher... in it that made it stink. Am I the only one who sniffs oil and shakes the bottle for a *glug* check to verify the viscosity? lol.

To dispel some of your concern, you could put in the right stuff and drive it for a week or so before flushing it and putting in some more.

The GL-5 did smell a little worse. I had to give'er a little snort just for safe measures. My wife came in last night and caught me sniffing a bottle of Shell Rotella T. It was my first time with synthetic so I had to see if it smelled any better

Thanks cr1998,

That's some funny stuff...sad...but funny. Even though I KNOW better from past experiences with building hotrods, Harleys, trucks, etc...I STILL tell myself each time I buy something "this will be the last thing I buy for a long time" : Why do we even try to kid ourselves? :-[
Re:5-sp Tranny problems/warranty

I found a place on line that sells the GM lube for $87 a gallon. The Red Line is only $9 a quart. I hate like heck to pay that much for the GM crap if the Red Line is the same thing. Suggestions/Comments??

I called GM for the stock oil and they want $23 a quart so needless to say I'll just put the Redline in and take my chances. My brother is gonna throw a set of new synchros in at the end of this month anyways.
