47RE Tranny Question
I have a 1999 Ram 3500 5.9L diesel 4 x 4. The transmission is just about gone and I need to replace it. I do not have the money for a rebuilt unit and am therefor looking at used transmissions. My question is this...I have located a 47RE with 98,000 miles on it, but the transmission was behind a V10, not a diesel. I was told that the tranmission will work fine simply by swapping out the valve body for a valve body for a 5.9L 47RE. Is this correct? Will it work correctly? Any advice and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
How much for the used tranny? New converter is going to cost some coin as well. I had mine rebuilt at Goerend for 2600 and change. New triple disk converter, input, VB, 1 new band and a few other misc parts.
Just a thought if the used tranny is up there in price. BTW my tranny was rebuilt with 78k.
Good luck.

What makes you think it is gone?
Mine had a bad factory T/C. (Lockup clutch burned out in T/C) I adjusted the bands , put in a DTT T/C and Suncoast VB and have been driving it for about 2 years. The main trans is still original. It works fine and the truck weighs around 12000 everyday now. I am running around 300 HP.

my tranny started slipping in 2nd so i put a bd valve body and a bd pressure lok and drive another 20000 miles but ended up frying it when i got tired of the stock tc. if its just now strting to feal sketchy i would get it cheked out and maybe get a valve body and torque converter. but if your clutches are fried theres not much that will fix it either then tearing the tranny apart and rebuilding it. i would get a valve body at least. it made a huge difference in my old set up with a stock converter. i dont recommend getting a used tranny because its just going to go out again.
