47re tranny

Someone told me today that if you change the tranny fluid every 20000 miles then the 47re can be quite reliable.

Can anyone attest to this?

Yes change it often.
I change mine about every 10,000 sometimes it gets close to 15,000
The real problem with the 47rh/re trans is factory production tolerances.

I think that it's also the filter change that counts- because with the low revs we are running the tranny needs any fluid flow it can get.
Something that lead to the verdict of "unreliability" in the beginning was that the diesel tuning crowd started out by removing the low end torque limits imposed by chrysler to make the tranny live- whereas in the gasser tuning world you usually find just higher revs at the same torque to produce more power.
Adding the manufacturing tolerances and the less than stellar QC....

Just my 2c

Alway change the filter!!!! Flush jobs that say it isn't required are risking your trans.

When you say factory production tolerances you are basically saying that when the motor is made to make more power then the tranny cant handle it, therefore may fail.

Right?

A loose converter, low pressure from valve bodies, trans that wasn't designed for stock power, and poor manufacturing techniques sum it up.

I'll be doing a fluid change this week now that you guys mention it...
