4.10s w/38"tires?
4.10s w/38"tires?
Does that sound okay to you guys? Right now i have the stock 3.55's. I don't tow any just mostly highway driving with hard acceleration! Some people over at PS told me to go with 4.56, but would'nt i run too high of a rpm at 70-80 mph?? Thanks guys!
Also does around $300 sound decent for a set of 4.10s with 50,000 miles on them?Or just buy new ones??

I run 315 on my 04.5 with 4.10. All you need to do is get speedometer re calibrated ''pinion factor''. I needed new gear setup for my 97 2500 I was showing this ford up and I broke a tooth. As for $300 for used gear doesn't sound right. I paid 350.00 To the door for a new set of DANA ring & pion and crush sleeve/shim kit FROM 4 WHEEL HEAVEN in NY. from INTERNET on line & no tax
i have 4:10's in my truck and the ONLY time i down shift is when i want to slow down. id love to have 3:55's. i just moved some one to montana from southern oregon pulling 6,000 pounds and the only time i was out of 6th gear was when the corners were to sharp!

4:56 will def wake up that truck! 3:55 on 38" tires must accelerate like a turd! at 80mph im only taching 2500 with 4:10s and 31" tires. and 4wheel parts sells gear sets for like 150 each! dont forget to change the front as well!
at the very least i would up for 4:10s on a 38: tire. just so you dont kill your tranny!
nm how much power your motor has!

If you really want your rig to pull hard, especially on the bottom, then you have to go 4.56. 4.10 is not enough to compensate for the added diameter, rolling resistance (depending on what 38 you are running this could have a huge impact on performance) and the enormous rolling mass.
That said, 4.10 would cruise just fine down the highway in an empty truck or light load it just will not get enough torque to the ground to accelerate as hard as you would likely want.

I still haven't made up my mind yet. Does anyone on this site run 4.56s? I'm leaning toward them , but I'm still a liitle worried about them at high speeds. Also what would you guys call a decent price for installation??Thanks again!!

in my opinion I wish I had 3.55's like my dad insted of my 4.10's I max out at 3400rpm @90mph. egt is through the roof. 315 tires run great onthe 3.55 rear. I'd need 38's just to match that ratio but the problem is more tire is alot more weight and a higher chance of breaking axels and what not. Tons more stress. Also I get about 16mpg and he gets 23. His truck is faster too with less power. I'll buy your 3.55's
Anywho thats just my opinion, everyone has one but I'm sure whatever you do will still be great. Its hard to screw up on thies trucks.

I used to run 38 inch tires with 3.54's. I loved it but my tranny builder advised against it since I tow. It still accelerated hard and got great mileage (low RPM's on the highway) but it was hard on the stock tranny. If you don't tow, I'd say run the gears you have and see how you like it before changing them. Remember, you're talkng about 300 or so in parts but don't forget about labor. You don't just bolt them in, they need special set-up and if you don't know how to do it, it's usually not all that cheap.
