3500 Fnt Rotor Question...

OK...got to do brakes tonight for a bud....and i have never done brakes on a 3500 2wd....here's the truck....

2001.5 3500 2wd Dodge.

How are the fnt rotors held on? Are they floating or is it a Hub and bering set up on this year? I got to thinking and i have never done a 2wd 1 ton before and i just want to make sure i get all my labor right!!!! haha.....

I also have to do the rear Disc's as well.......and im sure they are floating......or are they? haha....thanks for any info!

Dan

The front rotors will pull off the hub once you get the caliper, caliper retainer and adapter hub off. I used a floor jack under the rotor so it would not spin when removing the hub adapter nuts.
Can't answer on the rears...

Rears are easy... Rotor/drum combo for parking brake... Most likely they will not need to be replaced anyway... If it were not for the shiny rotor, I'd wonder if mine even work...

WELP....you know what you get when you Assume.....yeah the rear is a female Dog of sorts. Found out axles do have to come out, and then the locking wedge with a flat head screw driver, and then (if you dont have the 2 9/16" Socket) a punch and hammer....which sucked.......badly....very badly.....haha. THEN you can get the rotor and hub off....undo the 15mm retainer bolts and you got a rotor.....and yes...the pads were BAD!!! Almost metal to metal.....so...had to be done......now to find a socket!!!

Hi Dan,
I guess you're talking about the rear rotors...well that sucks. I wanted to pull mine this spring to check the ebrake parts (just because) but I have too much other stuff to worry about. I had a feeling the axles had to come out because that's what the FSM says but I never actually did it so I didn't want to comment on it last time.

Yeah....i got em off.....if i had the socket...would be no big deal...but anything involving a punch, hammer, and 10 Rotations sucks! They are some deep rotors!!!! haha.....if you do get them off...i would suggest replacing the grease seal on the Hub assembly......
